Thaddeus of the Underworld is just one of my vampire DID personalities, but is one of the most influential of them all. Together my husband Luke DeSalvo and I have been battling Thaddeus for years and he continues to be the villain of the Raven of Axelgard Trilogy.

As the master of the Underworld’s bloodling, or vampiric “child” who was turned by Thaddeus, Raven was never taught how to live the life of a vampire. Thaddeus and Raven’s rivalry run deep and the depth of the chasm of their hatred for one another knows no bounds.

Can’t get enough of these devious vampires? My husband Luke DeSalvo wrote Templar’s Folly, the first book of his Psychic Detective Malachi Monroe Series, which is based off our reality, and also features the misadventures of Raven and Thaddeus:

In circa 2021, back to the topic of vampire warfare, Raven begged us for help defeating Thaddeus, and clearly was distraught.

As dangerous as Thaddeus is, we ironically needed to summon him to be able to defeat him. It was akin to purposely walking into a lion’s den to defeat just one lion, only to be devoured by them all. Despite the risks though, we did what we could to help Raven.

With the vampire king’s help I started drawing runes in Luke’s journal at his former home in Puhi. It was a grueling effort however easy drawing might sound, as it was sucking out Luke and I’s energy at rapid speeds.

Think of dealing with an energy vampire, someone who slowly depletes your life force just by being around them. Our situation was similar except for the fact that we were dealing with an actual vampire and were on the periphery of inciting paranormal warfare.

Essentially the goal was to create a portal through which Thaddeus would enter, and we knew that he would enter by sensing Raven’s presence on the other side of the portal.

The problem was we only had a limited amount of time before our window of when Thaddeus could enter our world would come to an end. Not to mention it takes an extremely great deal of energy to summon such an ancient vampire, and I had to sleep every few hours in between working. Luke guarded me and the portal when I slept, ensuring my safety.

Raven did his part protecting us and coaching us on what to do, but he is a vampire after all and he was draining our spiritual energy at the same time. All in all the process was a coordinated effort and I couldn’t do it without Luke’s spiritual power or expertise. Either way it had to be done, otherwise Thaddeus would hunt us down and fall victim to his immortal wrath, thus endangering our mortal souls.

In the end we did defeat the vampire lord, and that kept him at bay for a while, but we still had numerous dangerous encounters with him after the first battle. Until this day Thaddeus continues to haunt me in the recesses of my own mind. When I’m out doing things like grocery shopping or listening to music or talking to a friend I hear his chatter in my head, either laughing at me or mocking me.

Either way it’s a fascinating process as Luke helps me to delve into my split personality, a journey that God has sent me on, and it is my responsibility to fulfill my duty. Not only that, but each encounter I have with Thaddeus and my other DID personalities helps me to heal, as I delve into my split personality.

Each time I am reminded that Thaddeus is my shadow or animus, which is a psychological archetype which represents the male aspect of a woman’s psyche. In psychology Carl Jung described the animus as the female’s male counterpart and as a result embodies traits like logic and wisdom. I do believe that Thaddeus represents my shadow self, the part of me little explored but nonetheless encompasses a significant part of my existence.

Since all these things have happened though, oddly enough I speak to Thaddeus often, and we have formed an understanding of one another. I finally have come to the point where I am no longer afraid of him.

Still, despite Thaddeus’ defeat, he still is a remarkably powerful vampire lord. For a long time I had numerous encounters with him where I was forced to fight him myself. I received a message from God telling me to fight my own battles, and so I did.

Stay tuned and find out more about my Thaddeus encounters in my upcoming book.

Now on the topic of Thaddeus past, I will warn you dear readers, that his story is not for the faint of heart.

The vampire lord, however dark and menacing he can be, does have an interesting past. Today he lives in a palace in the Underworld with his own fleet of nightmares, or vile devilish black horses with flames for manes and tails, and vast expanses of mountain ranges and open desert-land where his vast legions train and reside. As far as being an evil creature of the night goes he has very little competition for his throne as the master of the Underworld and is clearly thriving.

Thaddeus’s history is also steeped in mystery and despair. Sacrifice after sacrifice has paved the dark road that he took to get to where he is today.

A young boy from the outskirts of the faraway Mediterranean-climate land of Italacia (thousands of miles west of Axelgard), he was faced with betrayal from the one he loved most, his mother. Standing on the periphery of the cliffs she made a dark prayer to her gods, an act in preparation for throwing him off the cliff, in order to honor them. Young Thaddeus, bound by rope, was horrified but accepted his fate nonetheless and merely waited as she prayed, listening to violent waves as they crashed, eating away at the boulders beneath the cliffs.

A man cloaked in a black robe appeared on the cliff out of nowhere and struck his mother. The woman, in an attempt to fulfill her promise to her gods, made a last ditch attempt to throw Thaddeus off the cliff. The man catches Thaddeus before he falls to his death.

Within moments the boy and the man leave together, jumping off the cliff themselves, which would normally end in certain death, but the stranger takes flight instead of having a fatal fall. Xantheon held young Thaddeus protectively, ensuring his safety on the long flight home. The young boy could not believe his luck.

In both Toast of Blood and Royal Blood the reader can learn a lot about Thaddeus of the Underworld.

As far as mental health is concerned, I would like to say I hope that anyone who experiences DID feels encouraged by this story to embrace their own journey. Every one of us is on our own journey, which are all unique and important.

Stay tuned to find out more, the third book in the series is in the type writer right now and when it's done I promise you won't be disappointed.
